We’ve never seen discounting like this, but when you gotta sell, you gotta sell.
The Bel Air mansion, ‘Billionaire’, believed to be the most expensive new house in the US, has had its price slashed by US$62 million (NZ$90.3 million.)
Mansion Global has reported that the house, originally listed at $250 million (NZ$364m), has come back on the market for $188 million (NZ$273.9m), which is a 25 per cent discount. A planned sale for the lower amount recently fell through.
Shawn Elliott one of the listing agents on the property with Nest Seekers International, told Mansion Global that “sometimes the market tells you what something is worth”.

The mega-mansion at 924 Bel Air Road, Los Angeles is the brainchild of luxury property developer Bruce Makowsky, who made his fortune selling handbags before he turned to real estate.
But why spend so much on a single development? When he first listed the property around 18 months ago, Makowsky believed there was a ready market for his house.
“After spending lots of time on mega yachts and large private jets that can sell from $50 million to $500 million, it baffled me that no one was developing luxury real estate at those high levels for the super wealthy,” he said. “I set up my real estate development company in Beverly Hills, California, to cater to the super affluent that demand the very best in life.
“I searched by land and helicopter to find a setting worthy of creating this masterpiece. I found it by air in the hills of Bel Air, within the platinum triangle of Beverly Hills, Holmby Hills, and Bel Air. This enclave is home to the most affluent people in the world, from captains of industry to the Hollywood elite.”
So what do you get for your money? To start with, there’s plenty of space for your friends and family, with two master suites, 10 oversized VIP guest suites and 21 luxury bathrooms.
Needless to say, the house is built for entertaining. There are 1579 square metres of entertainment decks, three gourmet kitchens, five bars, a 25.9m-long infinity pool, 40-seat theatre and four-lane bowling alley.
There’s also an auto gallery with cars valued at more than US$30 million, more than100 curated art installations, a massive assorted candy wall, a wellness spa and a state-of-the-art fitness centre. For the price of the home you also get seven trained staff for the first two years.
Hilton & Hyland also hold the listing.
